2026 will be a strong triathlon year. The scene is more lively than ever, and the motivation of many athletes seems to have reached a new peak after the challenging previous years. And yet one constant remains: For many triathletes, swimming is and remains the biggest challenge.
It is by no means the most physically demanding part of the race. Rather, it is the unknown, the uncontrollable, the unfamiliar. The start in open water, the jostling, the limited visibility, breathing under stress. All this ensures that swimming in triathlon becomes a mental feat for many.
Our goal for the 2026 season is once again clear: We want to dispel once and for all the myth that swimming is simply part of life and has to be survived somehow. Instead, we show how you can actively use this section of the race for yourself. Because if you glide through the water calmly and in a controlled manner, you start the competition in a completely different way.
This starts with the right technology and ends with a well-thought-out strategy for open waters. Those who can assert themselves in the group, keep their orientation and breathe efficiently not only save energy, but also gain self-confidence. And this is just as noticeable in the transition zone as it is on the next few kilometers on the bike.
Our swimSEMINAR Triathlon was developed exactly for these challenges. It offers ideal conditions to improve your own technique and train important elements for the competition. In addition to targeted technical content, the program includes video analysis, theory units and specific exercises for orientation, breathing and behavior in starting situations. Even if no real open water is simulated, the participants are given tools that make the difference in the race.
The 2026 season offers the perfect stage for this. The DATEV Challenge Roth on July 5 remains a classic for all long-distance fans. The Ironman Hamburg with swimming in the Alster is set (June 7, 2026), as is the Suzuki World Triathlon Hamburg (July 11-12), where professionals and age groupers meet. Those who prefer smaller, perhaps even more familiar competitions will find great alternatives at regional sprint and Olympic distances – for example in Heilbronn on 14 June, at Lake Tegernsee (5 July) or around Lake Wörthsee (26 July).
After the 2025 Ironman World Championships were held in separate formats – the men in Nice, the women in Hawaii – the pros will return to a joint event in Hawaii from 2026. A dream destination for many, but also an occasion to take a holistic view of one’s own performance. Especially those who have this goal in mind should work on the first discipline at an early stage in order to fully exploit their own potential.
So whether your goal is a big name or a quiet lake, we’re ready for this season. And we’re ready to get you through the water strong.
